Scotland news-blog. February 2014.

Cooeee laddies and lassies.

Carol and I will in Oz in April for our son’s wedding to Jess. So I thought we would slip in one more news-blog before we visit Australia. Thanks for those who have responded to previous blogs…

I will be conducting the wedding ceremony; what a joy !. I have been asked by my Scottish brethren if I will be wearing my kilt as is the wedding tradition here. However, I can assure my Australian brethren that I have decided that to keep my tartan apparel to a neck tie. (“Hall” tartan of course…).

We will be landing in Oz just before Easter, and leaving on 9th May. Besides the wedding, we will be ministering at;

Orange on the 27th April (now confirmed)
Grenfell on the 5th May (confirmed)

We can’t wait to catch up with you somewhere around the “wide brown land”. We will also be staying with Pastor Clare Singleton in Orange for a wee while.

Also, our daughter will be sharing her new teacher’s residence with us in her new town of Tottenham in the central West of NSW. (Used to be known as “Totty” when I worked in Graincorp. I was in charge of finance of the silo at the time). Stacey is the new Science teacher there.

Whilst at Grenfell and Orange, we hope to present a wee DvD and bring a Word from Father besides a report of how things are in Scotland. See you there !.

Greenock

We have stated “The Identity Driven Life” again. Each series is totally unique as The Spirit ministers to each one personally. In this series, the Spirit seems to be “plucking up and destroying” old thinking as replacing them with the “real” gospel. Tradition and superstition is part of every Scot’s mindset. We have been praying that God would breakthrough those old mindsets and replace them with His life. That’s why we are big on preaching the new covenant here. God does nothing outside the new covenant. Also, there is such a need to teach people that there are 2 kingdoms. So, we are “throwing down and destroying” as it says in Jeremiah, and “building and planting” something new (which is really very old !). Every IDL series is different and fresh.

Jail.

As usual, there are many stories I could tell. But this time, I will give you a quick “negative story”. I saw a prisoner who was 31 years old. I walked into his cell and his face was yellow. He told me that he has “Hep C”. He didn’t believe in God, but was friendly to me; they always are – the Aussie accent gets me in all the time !. I was a bit shocked at his story (I thought I heard it all by now), and the state of his health. He could hardly move as he was in pain. What do I do ?. Do I “be nice and conversational” ?. Do I tell Him about Jesus even though he wasn’t open to the gospel ?. He asked me to see him the following week as he was tiring. When I walked in his cell the following week, he couldn’t move. The prison system let him go home that day on compassionate grounds. He was dead the next day.

It bought home to me the fickleness of life; the power of sin and its permanence; death. The state of those without Christ and His life NEED THE CHURCH AND IT’S MESSAGE TO BRING THE LIFE OF CHRIST !. I thought of how insignificant the Church’s inner disagreements are !.

“Lord, may I never be complacent; may I be bold; may I have wisdom. Lord, May I walk in your will so that others may know the Life that I experience. Lord, people are hurting and dealing with pain in ways that are destroying them !. Lord, may your Spirit open their hearts to your Life” !.

See you in April.

Being a “doer” is to be a “poetic performer”

So, we read we are to be “doers of the Word”.

That used to be preached with a bit of a “works mentality” attached.

But being a “doer of the Word” may not be what is generally taught. In fact, “doer” is an unfortunate translation. Let’s look at the Word, and the correct definitions…

For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:23-25 NKJV)

What does “doer” mean here ?. Is it helping ladies across the street ?. Here is the Vines definition of “doer” (Greek is “poietes”; a verb or “doing” word)

A “doer” is a poetic performer. It is one who “produces” something in a dramatic way. In fact, this same Greek word is translated as “poet” in Acts 17:28.

What about this one from Jesus;

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV)

“Does” here is almost the same word as “doer” in James (Greek is “poieo”);

Can you see the words; “produce”, “author”, “celebrate”.

To be a true “doer” of the Word, we need to be a “poetic performer”. We need to “author”, “produce” and “celebrate” the Christ in us. We “dramatize” who we are in Him !. We bring to life in an emotional way, the finished work of who we are in Him !.

A person recently vehemently disagreed with me about this because I was preaching that not only do we have a righteous position in Christ, but we can also feel it. I said that that our righteous identity should “show out”. I said that we need to add emotion to our righteous position and “bring it to life”.

This person said “righteousness is not an emotion but a position”. I replied that it is most definitely a position, but we can feel it too !.

Here is my proof that we can “poetically perform” & “celebrate” our righteousness by adding some emotion to it;

The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory. (Psalms 64:10 NKJV)

But let the righteous be glad; Let them rejoice before God; Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly. (Psalms 68:3 NKJV)

Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. (Psalms 100:2 NKJV)

The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish. (Proverbs 10:28 NKJV)

So you can FEEL righteous !. You can FEEL God’s love. You can FEEL like a son !. Don’t go all religious on God and say “I know I am righteous/loved/a son, so I live out of that”…”poetically perform” those truths !. That way, you will be a doer, and his life will flow from you to others !. You will “be blessed” !.

A few more on gladness…

And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.” (Isaiah 25:9 NKJV)

Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:12 NKJV)

but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. (I Peter 4:13 NKJV)

There are many more, but you get the picture.

When I tell my wife “I love you”, I don’t sound like a robot !. But I add some emotion to ensure she “feels” my love; not just know it. I don’t say “I made my vows 30 years ago, so live from that”. Love needs to be updated regularly. We “gather Jesus” daily like manna in the wilderness.

If we look at the passage in James, there is a truth that we have missed.

A “doer” is one who sees who they are in Christ, and is free to “produce” that life from the heart and position…through the emotions until it bleeds out of them in their behaviours, thoughts and actions !. If you “poetically perform” the Jesus in you, it will gush out of you !. You are free to do this, and will “be blessed in all you do”.

You don’t have to “fake it till you make it” because you have already made it in Christ !. We just bring to life in an emotional way, the Life that is with in by “celebration”. We add emotion to it. “Be blessed in all you do” !.

Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:3 NKJV)

Christian greetings laddies and lassies !.

Pastor’s Rob & Linda Newton from Grenfell, NSW, Australia

I have just finished a wonderful hour on Skype to Pastors Rob & Linda Newton in Australia, who are now the Pastors of the church where I was the shepherd. (Grenfell Family Church). It was great to “swap notes”, have a laugh, encourage and pray for each other. It seems the church has been left in good hands !.

Carol & I will in Oz in April for my oldest son’s wedding. James is marrying Jess. I will conduct the ceremony. We are so proud of James & Jess and look forward to a time of celebration of life and keeping covenant.

We will also be ministering in Oz since we will be there. So we look forward to sharing what God is doing in Bonnie Scotland, and sharing the Word.

Stacey Hall B Sc. B teach sec

As I write this blog, Carol is in Oz for the graduation of our daughter, Stacey. She has graduated with a double degree in Science, and secondary high school teaching.

Our church in Greenock helped finance the trip for which we are grateful. The whole church laid hands on Carol, prayed for her & blessed her.

Residency

As I advised in the previous news-blog, I have been granted “Indefinite Leave to Remain” which is permission to live here indefinitely. (It is not citizenship).

Some of our friends arranged a surprise celebration for me. Thanks to them; including Ron & Kerry Edwards. It was a great night where it was more than fun, laughs and fellowship. They all prayed for Carol & I and we were greatly encouraged by the saint’s prayers and support.

Jail Ministry

Jail work continues. Yesterday, I spent an afternoon with a prisoner who was bought up in a mainstream church. He is in jail for non payment of debts. (Yes, they still jail people for that in Scotland; unlike Australia). He said to me; “I was a good man. Now I am bad, I will have to work extra hard to be good again”. I gave Him Jesus and his finished work, and who He is in Christ when he becomes born again. He had never heard the gospel before even though he was bought up in a “respectable Scottish” church !. I finished the session praying for him. There was a flow of tears. He asked to see him each week. He said “please help me with all this because its all new”.

One more jail story…a muslim came to a bible study group. He never said a word, but listened to everything I said about righteousness by faith and not works. He has started come to jail church !. I even got a Christmas card from him yesterday !. WOW !. (a card is about a days wage !).

River Church, Greenock

In 2014, we will be starting the new year with a daytime “Identity Driven Life” series. This is because many people have asked for a day session. Life has changed now, and people are working shifts at night time. The old shipyards which were closed have been replaced by call centres and an Amazon storehouse. So people are working shifts. Also a day session is better during a crisp Scottish winter. We are excited about this session because of the hunger for “IDL”, but also because I am changing and adding things to make improvements. We have already seen fruit to the previous series in our church. One man said it has totally changed his life. His wife still thanks me !. But “IDL” is not the change agent; the Spirit revealing the finished work of the Word is !.

This month, we had a meeting that I had been looking forward to for a long time. Every song we sang, we composed ourselves !. You could say there is a “song of the hoose” beginning to form. The songs were about Jesus and the new covenant. This is what we believe God is wanting to say to Scotland currently.

Here are some of the songs (more to be uploaded)

Have a blessed 2014

We continue to work hard to bring the Life of Christ to this nation. We are convinced that it is God’s mind to bring a new covenant message to this nation. He is bringing missionaries from all over the globe here to do the task. We must never forget that the purpose of the church is to make disciples !. Matthew 28:19-20 ; Water baptism is not just about the act of baptism itself; but about “plunging” and “immersing” people into the life of Christ !.

So, we thank you so much for your continued support. We pray that you would know the blessing of God in an increasing way in 2014. Auch aye !

Scotland News-Blog. November 2013

Quick update.

Good news…

This morning, the “UK Border Agency” has approved my residency/settlement visa.

I previously came to Scotland on a “Spouse Visa”. This was a “permission” to live in Scotland for 2 years. This had expired, so I had to apply for “Indefinite Leave to Remain” (or leave the country).

This was quite expensive, and I would like to thank those who financially contributed to the cost. I couldn’t have done it without you !.

Last night, the Pastors of Uddingston [Andy and Helen Dempsey] (Glasgow) and Ron and Kerry Edwards prayed for us; for God’s favour, and approval of the settlement visa. There is no substitute for being connected to people “whose hearts God has touched”, who support you in your time of need.

We continue to Pastor the Greenock church in South West Scotland on a part time basis. The need is so great there !.

The jail chaplaincy continues. Tomorrow I will be at Falkirk to do a 1/2 day course.

So, now that we know I can continue to live in Bonnie Scotland, we can be more settled in our plans. Again. Thanks for all your help and support.

Peter

Here is an e-mail I got from the Manager of the “Scottish Prison Fellowship” (oversight of Prison Ministry in all Scottish Prisons, which currently has the highest population in history)

“Well When God makes a plan not even the UKBA can change that !.

See you tomorrow my fellow Scot.

Terry”

Amen !.

Some of the Greenock mob...

Some of the Greenock mob…

Scotland News-Blog. October 2013.

It’s been a wee while since our last contact…

We have been pastoring the church at Greenock now since January. We have just changed the name of the church to “River Church, Greenock”. The name identifies the church with the local area; being on the Firth of the Clyde. This was the biggest ship building port “in the empire” until the 1980′s. The decline caused massive unemployment and marginalization of its people.

We have also upgraded the decor of the church, and had a “launch” of the new name recently. Some photies (photo’s) below. We are running a second series of “The identity driven life”. I have been asked to do a daytime series. So we will commence that soon.

We are starting to write our own choruses. Some of our own songs are called “river of grace” (pretty appropriate !), “I have found where I belong”, and “giving my heart”. We are hoping to record these and put them on our new website. So, it’s great that there is a “song of the house” starting to be heard.

If you are interested, here are some contact details of the “new” church if you would like to join the fun…

website : riverchurch.co (will open in a few weeks)

twitter : @greenockaog
facebook : river church greenock

We have had a few activities with youth. There is not much ministry to the younger generation here, so we are looking at how we can improve effectiveness in reaching them. We would appreciate your prayers in this regard.

Recently, we did some church training on evangelism. We had a video, and “interviewed” some folks who have a passion for evangelism to give us tips on how to invite, and speak to people about the gospel. This Sunday, we are holding a meeting for people to bring unsaved friends…we are going to put the training into action !.

It was good to have the pastor of the Orange church here, Clare and Catherine, last month. It was great to have fellowship and some laughs.

Other ministry

Since our last news-blog, I preached at Easterhouse church in inner Glasgow. We have also been running meetings on Sunday afternoon at the jail. The numbers are the biggest we have seen so far !. Also, each meeting creates more contact opportunities to talk to prisoners. I am still giving out bibles each week and praying for prisoners in their cell. These are very powerful times. They usually say “what is that…I feel something strange on the inside”. When you have no distractions, and have no where to go, you can be still and allow the Spirit to move on your heart. One prisoner wrote me a poem, and gave me the pen he wrote it with; it cost half a weeks wage !. That is his way of saying “thanks”. (we are baptising him in water in the jail water tank next month !)

Request for Help

Last time, I asked for help regarding my residency visa which is due next month. (I am here on a spouse visa because Carol is a British Citizen. This is about to expire).

2 people generously gave; one was anonymous. I would like to thank both people very much. We are confident that approval will be forthcoming so we can continue to minister here.

I would also like to thank those supporters; past and present for your generosity.

Plans

If my visa is not approved, as the ol’ song says..”I’ll be home for Christmas”. However, if approval is granted (which is what we expect), we are hoping to get back to Australia next March/April for a visit.

If you have any questions you would like to ask us, please contact us. You can e-mail, skype, facetime…etc

Well, I had better go because Carol said the haggis is cooked !. Yum !.

Scotland news-blog. July 2013.

Hello again.

Its summer time !. Lovely hot days at 19 degrees !.

Request for Help

As you may know, I am here on a spouse visa because Carol is a British Citizen. My visa is about to expire in a few months, so I must apply for a residency visa. This is called “Indefinite Leave to Remain” visa. This will cost £1,398 which $2,300 Aussie Dollars.

I am asking for financial support for this to allow me to continue what God has called us here for. If you would like to help, please deposit your offering to this bank account;

I would really appreciate your help in this regard. This is a “one off”.

Other news

The Greenock church are only starting to get to know us. We are currently preaching a series called “A new Covenant: a new way of thinking, a new way of living“. We are also about to conclude our “first edition” of “The Identity Driven Life“. I hope to have some reports to you soon. We are also planning 2 youth events to keep the momentum going on our previous “Encounter Weekend”.

We had Ray Stokes here last Sunday. He gave a very relevant word to the house. Even though he did not know the issues in the church, he spoke into them with great accuracy. I also asked him to run a “Prophetic Workshop” in the afternoon which was outstanding. I look forward to the “ripple on effect” in the future.

The jail ministry continues to grow. I prayed for one particular prisoner who got saved. The presence of God filled the cell…lotsa tears, hugs, smiles… (Glasgow drug dealer). He asked me after a few weeks…”I can’t stop thinking about helping youth in Glasgow. I want to help them. What is that ?. Is that me or God ?.”. I said “if it fades over time, it was probably you, but if it continues to grow until you can’t shake it, it is probably God”. He said, “I wake up in the night and thats all I think about. I can’t stop it !”.

Sound like to God is working to me !.

Ron & Kerry Edwards are now in Oz. They just handed over the Dundee church to a young couple they did a fantastic job there, and handed over the church in the best possible “health”. We look forward to working with the new Pastors; Mike & Darla Holloway. We appreciate Ron & Kerry’s ministry & heart for Scotland.

Well, I have tried to keep it short & sweet. There is so much more I could write.

Please consider supporting us with for the visa so we can continue to fulfill this call to Scotland.

Peter & Carol.

“Fou’s ya bin a da’ loon ?” (“G’day mate” in Doric, or North Eastern Scots)

“Fou’s yer dous” (how ya goin’ ?)

Time for another wee update !.

We have been busy since the last blog. We are now settling into the Greenock church as Pastors. We are well into the “the Identity Driven Life” series mid week. On Sundays, we have started a new series called “A new covenant: a new way of thinking, a new way if living”.

There is no youth leader here, so Carol and I took 10 youth on a camp called “Encounter God weekend”. We took the youth to Stirling Castle (most of them had never been to Stirling before) and had a meeting at night. 2 of the boys got filled with the Holy Ghost, and one girl got saved…here she is getting a bible as a birthday gift from our church…

Marie FCF

We are planning another 2 events over the summer.

We have started a songwriter’s group in the church. We have 5 songwriters who we are trying to inspire to write new covenant songs that are relevant to Greenock and Inverclyde (the local county area). We have started to sing some already !.

We a going to change the church name and make some changes to the building to be more relevant to the local area, and also to make it family friendly. We will have a new website with our songs available for download. More on the next blog.

Last week, we had 6 new people at church. I also conducted a funeral last week for a lady who was a part of our church. Christian funerals are different aren’t they !.

Despite the huge job required here, I can only work 2 days a week at church, yet I must have a “full time”/shepherd mentality and heart. Carol is taking some of the accounting workload, and I am also working 2 days per week at the jail, as well as take some services there. I also spoke at another prison a fortnight ago (Kirk o’ Shotts prison in Lanarkshire). Too many stories to tell here…lots of prayers and tears behind the cell door among the anger, hurt and pain. Yesterday, one prisoner died in his sleep. This is a great opportunity to speak of the spiritual realm while his pals (mates) grieve…so much more talk about !.

I have also ministered at Dundee last month and will be at Easterhouse next month.

We have Ray Stokes from the USA in Greenock this month. He will also being doing a prophetic workshop for us. We are in close relationship with Ron and Kerry Edwards also. We enjoy the Apostolic and prophetic life, both the Edwards and Ray are starting to bring into the Greenock church.
Ray Stokes 30.6.2013

Well, there is so much more to write about, but you would be here all day. There is sooooo much to do, so we appreciate your continued support very much.

Last week I passed the “Life in the UK” test which is a pre-requisite for residency after my spouse visa runs out in November. This visa will cost £1,398 ($2,248). If you would like to assist me in paying for this visa, you can pay into the missions bank account at Grenfell (details below – THANKS !).

By the way, in case you were wondering about the introduction in Doric, I have been talking to a prisoner from Aberdeen (North East) who has been giving me lessons in Doric !.

Peter (and Carol)

We ask for your prayers for the following issues;

- God to continue to touch the young people we are beginning to have contact with
- that the “identity driven life” series would touch and change people’s lives
- God to continue bless the people of Greenock church with revelation of Christ,
- The Holy Spirit to touch prisoners, and they would open their heart to the “good news”.
- continued financial provision, for ourselves and the church
- Favour with the UK border agency; that residency would be granted.
